A new decade and a renewed mission

So, it’s like my birthday or something.

I’m starting a new decade.

I don’t like it. I still feel 17, or at least maybe 23. Is this a good thing?

I’ve struggled all year with accepting getting older. I am not necessarily any more prepared today than I was a month ago.

In my mind I determined that if I had a really fun present or a really fun party then turning a new decade wouldn’t be such a bad thing.

Then God started to mess with me about being selfish and greedy and self-consumed.

Ick. And true.

There are a lot of things I want and try to justify that I need, but the reality is that I am rich and have more than enough. I am not starving, in slavery, or illiterate. In fact, its the opposite.

The more I thought about what I wanted for my birthday, the more I realized that instead of getting I should be giving.

So, on the day I turn 30, there are 30 gifts I desire.

I want 30 kids to be sponsored through World Vision.

I want 30 kids to receive food, clothing, and education all in the name of Jesus.

Poverty is the number one reason children become orphans. The best way to care for orphans is to prevent them from becoming orphans in the first place. Sponsorship is a great way to do just that.

Will you sponsor a child today?

Will you sponsor an older child that often goes overlooked?

For a $1/day you can change the life of a child forever.

Give the gift of sponsorship this Christmas.

If you sponsored a child for my birthday, I’d love to hear about it! Post a comment below with the child’s name/age/country.

If you already participate in sponsoring a child, I’d love to hear about that, too! Post a comment with the child’s name/age/country and how long you have been sponsoring them.

Sponsorship is also a great way to involve your whole family. We sponsor Emely and David in Honduras. MissE is so great at praying for these kids and coloring pictures to send.

30 kids sponsored would = Best. Birthday. Ever.

ps  If you can’t commit to sponsoring a child monthly, consider donating a one time gift to the Survive to Five ministry. I’ve already way outlived the predicted life span for many children in developing and poverty stricken countries!?!

ps Can you help me spread the word?
